<i>High Island</i> <p> High Island is east of Galveston and is a well known place for birding. The Houston Audubon Society operates four bird sanctuaries on High Island. I have only had the chance to visit Smith Oaks Rookery and Boy Scout Woods. </p> <p> Smith Oaks Rookery was a fantastic place. <dl> <dt><img src="Icons/B_red.png"><b>Boy Scout Woods</b></dt> <dd> When I was there I did see more people than birds, but I have heard this can be a fantastic place for birding, especially during migration. </dd></dt> <dt><img src="Icons/S_red.png"><b>Smith Oaks Rookery</b></dt> <dd> The place was loaded with nesting Roseate Spoonbills. Some of the Spoonbills were quite close. I also saw nesting Great Egrets and some Tri-colored Egrets, Common Moorhens, Northern Cardinals, an alligator, etc. It is definitely a not to miss place in the spring. </dd></dt> </dl> </p> <iframe width="425" height="350" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Galveston+Dr,+Redwood+City,+San+Mateo,+California+94063&msa=0&msid=104256419760424276948.0004692ad68f9d6cd12f2&ll=29.571068,-94.392471&spn=0.052256,0.072956&z=13&output=embed"></iframe><br /><small>View <a href="http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?source=embed&hl=en&geocode=&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Galveston+Dr,+Redwood+City,+San+Mateo,+California+94063&msa=0&msid=104256419760424276948.0004692ad68f9d6cd12f2&ll=29.571068,-94.392471&spn=0.052256,0.072956&z=13" style="color:#0000FF;text-align:left">Favorite Birding Places</a> in a larger map</small>
