The Sacrament Wildlife Refuge is part of the Sacramento Wildlife Refuge complex. Listed as one of the Fifty Places to Go Birding Before you Die, the Sacramento Wildlife Refuge is a great place to visit during the Fall and winter months. Thousands of Snow Geese and Greater White-fronted Geese visit the refuge. At sunset, it is a fantastic sight to see the Snow Geese take off for the rice fields. You can also see many different kinds of ducks, Ring-necked Pheasants, a variety of sparrows, finches and raptors. I even once saw a coyote there.
A six-mile auto tour is the best way to see the ducks and geese. You can only get out of your car at a couple of places but you can stop and view the wildlife along the way.
