Anna's Hummingbirds are found along the western edge of southern Canada, the U.S. and northern Mexico. They are very common in the S.F. Bay Area and California. Males have the noticeable red-throat when breeding. They eat nectar from flowers (see the picture below with the tongue extended) and eat insects and sometimes tree sap.
