Strix varia Length: 17-18"

I have only seen one Barred Owl and that was at the Florida Keys Wild Bird Rehabilitation Center. It is a place worth visiting. The Barred owl is distributed through most of the eastern U.S. and Western Canada and norther U.S. They numbers have been expanding in urban areas.

They mostly hunt at night, but have been observed hunting during the day. They mostly eat small mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates.
