The Blue-winged Teal is a dabbling duck that is not as common in the Bay Area. The best place is Garretson Point, Martin Luther King Regional Park in Oakland during winter. Because they are not so common in the Bay Area, I was surprised to see so many of them when I visited Galveston, Texas. They seemed fairly common there.

The white crescent on the male is a great field marker. They feed in shallow water eating mostly plants with some molluscs and aquatic insects.
