Rallus longirostris Length: 14-16"

The best place to find the endangered Clapper Rail in the S.F. Bay Area is the Martin Luther King Regional Park near the Oakland Airport. You can walk out on the pier and look down at them hiding in the reeds. The best time to see them is at very high tide during the winter. Sometimes you can see them at low tide walking across the mud flats. I believe they are one of the more photogenic birds.
