The House Finch is a permanent resident throughout the continental U.S. and most of Mexico. The male has a red head and red breast with brown streaks which make if fairly easy to spot. There is a yellow variant where the head and breast are yellow. Check out some of the pictures below to see this.

The House Finch mostly eat grains, seeds and berries. They will visit bird feeders. We always have a few eating our Sunflower seeds.
