The Lesser Scaup is a diving duck and is very similar to the Greater Scaup. The Lesser Scaup is slightly smaller, has a point at the top of the head, and has a smaller black tip on the bill. They are quite common in the Bay Area. They are divers and mainly eat mollusks and aquatic plants. One picture below shows a male eating a mollusk.
