Charadrius semipalmatus Length: 6.5-7"

The Semipalmated Plover has a short bill and yellow-orange legs. The semipalmated part of its name comes from the partial webbing between its middle and outer toes. The Semipalmated Plover is not as common as the Killdeer, but you can see them all around the Bay Area.

They find marine worms, crustaceans, and small molluscs by holding one foot forward and vibrating the substrate. This causes the prey to move and be detected.
