Phalaropus tricolor Length: 8.75-9.5"

I was lucky one day to see some Wilson's Phalaropes at the Hayward Regional Shoreline. Wilson's Phalaropes are mostly found on fresh water. They eat aquatic insects and small crustaceans in fresh water and shrimp and brine flies in salt water. They pick small bits of food from the water's surface. Sometimes they will spin in tight circles to create upwellings of food although they do this less than other Phalaropes.
