The Bernardo Waterfowl Management Area is south of Albuquerque, New Mexico and is on the way to Basque del Apache (25 miles north). It has a car tour with many places to get out and walk.

While I was there in late October, I saw lots of Sandhill Cranes, a Black Phoebe, Norther Flickers, White-crowned Sparrows, etc. It is definitely a place to visit.
