Salton Sea
Salton Sea, CA.The Salton Sea is the largest lake in California. It is below sea level, though not as much as Death Valley. The Salton Sea is part of the flyway for migrating and wading birds.
Two of the places we visited at the Salton Sea were all on the east shore. The Salton Sea Visitor's center was great for birds. I saw a Verdin, Great-tailed Grackles, Ring-billed Gull, Reddish Egrets, Ring-billed Gull eating the eyes of a Talapia fish, Black-bellied Plover, etc. The second place we went was to the Wister Waterfowl Management Area where we drove on the dikes to get to the water. We saw over a thousand American White Pelicans, White-faced Ibis, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Blue Heron, a lot of American Coots, etc.
