The Spectacled Owl is found from southern Mexico and Trinidad to Brazil, Paraguay and northwestern Argentina. They are mostly found in tropical rain forests but will inhabit the edges of secondary growth forests.
They are a nocturnal bird and the mammals they eat include rodents, opposums and skunks. They also eat caterpillars, crabs, snails and large insects and spiders.
