The White-rumped Shama was formerly thought to be part of the thrush family and was called the White-rumped Shama Thrush or Shama Thrush. They are native to South and southeast Asia. There were introduced to Hawaii in 1940 and escaped cage birds have established themselves in other places such as Taiwan.

The White-rumped Shama is a medium-sized bird that mainly eats insects. They also eat berries and other fruit. They are shy but are very territorial.
