The Barred Owl is distributed through most of the eastern U.S. and Western Canada and northern U.S. They numbers have been expanding in urban areas.
They mostly hunt at night, but have been observed hunting during the day. They mostly eat small mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish and invertebrates.
