The Southern Carmine Bee-eater is found in sub-equatorial Africa. The sexes are similar. They are a socialable species and gather in large flocks both in and out of breeding season. The above length does not include the streamers on their tail which can range from 9.5-12 cm more.
Diet is mostly bees and other flying insects. They are attracted to wildfires because it flushes insects.
