The Swallow-tailed Kite long scissor-shaped tail makes it easily recognizable while flying. They are found mainly in southern U.S. south to Peru and northern Argentina.
Diet includes small reptiles (snakes and lizards) and small amphibians such as frogs, large insects, small birds and their eggs, and small mammals.
