The Ring-necked Dove is also called the Cape Turtle Dove or the Half-collared Dove. It is the abundant dove species in east and southern Africa. Both sexes look similar but males are slightly larger. Between birds, individual plumage varies quite a bit. Some birds are light, other are sooty.

They feed mostly on seeds but will also eat fruit, berries and some insects.
