Hayward Regional Shoreline

The Hayward Regional Shoreline is located near the the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge. Two of the most well known places in the park to visit are the Interpretive Center at 4401 Breakwater Avenue and at the end of Winton Avenue. Both places are marked on the map below and are very good birding places. You can see such rarities as Black Skimmers, Red-Knots, Loons, etc. Winton is better for non-shorebirds such as passerines and you will probably see more shorebirds at the Interpretive center. The Interpretive center also has nesting Cliff Swallows.
Winton Avenue- At the end of Winton Avenue you have access to the park and shoreline. If you follow the path and go north past the hill with the airplane radio towers, you will end up at a little lake on the right called "Franks Dump". This is a good place for shorebirds and such rarities as Red-Knots.
Interpretive Center- To enter at the south side, where the Interpretive Center is, take the Clawiter exit. Going west, this is the last exit before the bridge. It is a great place for shorebirds, ducks, raptors, etc. You can also see many, many, Cliff Swallows flying and nesting during the spring and summer.
