San Leandro Reservoir
San Leandro Reservoir (Valle Vista Staging Area) is a popular birding location for birding field trips. The dirt parking lot is located on the left, approximately 1.2 miles from Morago Way. You need a EBMUD permit to access some of the trails, but they are easily obtained.
It is a really good place for song birds, woodpeckers, various raptors and Brown Creepers. I have seen quite a few of Western Bluebirds there. It is also one of the few places in the Bay Area that you can see Wood Ducks. They can be far away, but they are there.
