The Greater Scaup is a diving duck found in North America, Europe and Asia. They are very similar to the Lesser Scaup but they are slightly larger, they do not have the pointed head, and the black tip of the beak is wider. They are quite common in the S.F. Bay Area. They are divers and mainly eat mollusks and aquatic plants. One picture below shows a female eating a mollusk.
